DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR PHOTOCAKE® SYSTEM AT THE POWER STRIP.
This may cause the PhotoCake® System to fail when the system is turned back on.

Printer Will Not Print

Check to insure the tension lever on the front of the printer is set on the "Envelope" icon (down) and the feed tray extension is fully extended.

The Power Light Flashes Orange - indicating error codes.

  • When an error occurs, the power light flashes orange. The number of orange flashes, followed by a long green flash, will indicate the cause of the problem.

    Two orange flashes: Paper jam.

    • If no paper is loaded into the auto sheet feeder or if the paper is not loaded correctly, set the paper correctly and press the "Resume" button to continue printing.

    Three orange flashes: Paper jam.

    • If paper has jammed in the printer, carefully remove the jam and press the Resume button to continue printing.

Four orange flashes: A tank inside the BJ (Bubble Jet) cartridge (print head) is out of ink.

    • Replace the empty tank and press the "Resume" button to continue printing.

Five orange flashes: Cartridge is not installed properly.

    • Remove and reseat the cartridge (both cartridges for the S450) correctly. Make sure to remove the protective cap and tape. Make sure the blue locking lever is locked down securely.

Six orange flashes: Cartridge (print head) is not installed.

    • Remove and reseat the cartridge (both cartridges for the S450) correctly. Make sure the protective cap and tape have been removed. Make sure the blue locking lever is locked down securely.

Seven orange flashes: Cartridge (print head) is defective.

    • Remove the cartridge (both cartridges for the S450) and check that the contacts on the cartridge and cartridge holder are clean. Make sure the protective cap and tape have been removed and reinstall the cartridge. If the error occurs again after you resume operation, you may need to replace the cartridge print head.

Eight orange flashes: Waste ink absorber almost full.

    • The printer has a built-in waste ink absorber to hold the ink that is consumed during print head cleaning. Press the "Resume" button to skip the error so you can continue printing.

Media will not feed into the Printer.

  • Make sure the Printer is set on the "Envelope" icon and not on the "Letter" icon.
  • Raise the extension on the back of the printer. This will hold the media upright.
  • Look for any obstruction in the paper feed slot on the back of the printer.
  • Open the Printer lid and clean off any excess ink on the rollers.
  • Make sure leading wax paper edge on Printables is no more than 1/8 inch long.
  • The light on the top of the printer should be solid green before starting to print and flashing green while printing.

PhotoCake® I Technical Tips

Run a color test each day that you are going to use the PhotoCake® system:
If white lines are visible, you need to:
  • Prime the cartridge with the suction bulb
  • Refill the cartridge (each cartridge can be refilled 2 times). Be careful not to over fill.
  • Replace the cartridge.
  • Clean the cartridge service tray weekly.

System says the print process is completed, but no print was produced.
Be sure to follow the print procedure:

  • Turn on the system
  • Feed the media into the printer by pressing "Feed Backward" until the media is halfway into the printer. Press "Load".
  • Wait until the load process has completed and the cartridge are back in the station. Touch "Print".
  • If you touch the print button before the load process is completed, the system will go off line and the green light will remain flashing on the printer. No print will be produced.

Printer light is flashing.
The printer is off line.

  • Turn off the printer by disconnecting the power source at the back of the printer (red letter "A"). Reconnect the power source and wait for the cartridge to return to the service station.

The scanner is not auto-detecting the photos, it prints the same size as the photo:
Clean both the lid and glass of the scanner.

  • If the inside lid of the scanner is white and has any visible color marks on it, remove the marks by cleaning it.
  • If the lid of the scanner is black and has any visible marks on it, remove the marks.
