Altar of Sweets Cake Design

Description:

The Altar of Sweets cake design is inspired by the traditional altars built during Dia de los Muertos. These altars are typically constructed in tiers, with each level symbolizing different elements of life and death. They are decorated with offerings like sugar skulls, candles and papel picado (colorful paper banners).

  • Choose Vibrant Colors: The vivid colors of Dia de los Muertos are key to this design. Cover your cake in black icing or fondant to make your colors and decorations pop. You can add bright accents with buttercream – think rich purples, oranges, yellows and pinks.
  • Add the Papel Picado Banner Rings: These banner rings are an easy way to add a traditional touch. Simply press them into the sides of the cake to create the look of hanging paper banners. The cut-out designs mimic the intricate patterns of real papel picado and add a festive flair.
  • Decorate with the Ofrenda Assortment Dec-Ons®: Our Ofrenda assortment includes everything you need to bring the altar to life - __________. These Dec-Ons are perfect for creating small vignettes on each tier of your cake, representing the offerings made to the spirits.
  • Top It Off with El Catrin and La Catrina Skulls: No Dia de los Muertos cake would be complete without the iconic sugar skulls. Our El Catrin and La Catrina skull layons are the perfect finishing touch. Place them front and center on the cake to make them the focal point of your design. Add Finishing Details: Use colored icing to add small flowers, swirls, or other decorative elements around the cake. You can also use our Marigold _____, which are traditionally used in Dia de los Muertos altars to guide the spirits to their offerings.
