Celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Mickey Mouse With Fun and Creativity
With his optimistic outlook, and endearing personality, Mickey Mouse delights fans around the world every day. We all know Mickey Mouse is a classic, but did you know he’s celebrating his 90th anniversary on November 18, 2018? This extended celebration is sure to create even more bakery demand for the #1 Character Franchise in the World.
But, that’s not the only great news!
As a professional cake decorator, you’ll love the new freedom and flexibility of the Mickey Mouse Creations DecoSet®. That’s right, you don’t have to follow a specific Decorator Card. Of course, you need to exercise good judgment by creating designs that fit Mickey’s personality and positivity. But other than that, you’re free to have fun.
Wondering what’s possible? See how the DecoPac Design Team embraced this opportunity to get creative.
Ice Cream Overboard
This indulgent, playful cake shows how the Mickey Mouse Creations DecoSet is a great fit for any theme—including an ice cream party. Cake tiers covered in black, red and yellow buttercream are enhanced with glossy drips from colored donut icing. Scoops of fondant mimic ice cream while donut icing reflect a melting effect. Fondant curls, gum balls, licorice twists, macarons and Dobla chocolate adorn the cake like party decorations. The must-have ice cream sprinkles are extra special—they are shaped like Mickey Mouse!
Yes! You can move beyond Mickey Mouse’s signature red, yellow and black color palette and choose fresh new colors for your creation. The middle tier of this cake tower, uses a colorful confetti PhotoCake® pattern featuring Mickey Mouse images—look closely, he’s in there. The bottom tier is decorated with precut Fondant DecoShape Strips in colors that complement the PhotoCake image and accented with cutouts of the PhotoCake image for an abstract art effect.
Mickey Mouse isn’t the only one with a celebration coming up – Minnie Mouse’s 90th Anniversary is next year! This feminine three-tiered design features a base of buttercream rosettes accented with Black Fondant DecoShape® Dots. A ring of Red Medium SugarSoft® Roses adds colorful dimension between the bottom and middle tiers. A Black Fondant DecoShape® Strip is an elegant border for the top tier while the Large Red SugarSoft® Rose completes the look of this very pretty cake.
Polka Dot Pocketbook
This Minnie Mouse cake design resembles a vintage pocketbook with her bow and ears as the handle, and a Black Fondant DecoShape® Strip as the purse clasp. Red Fondant and White DecoShape® Dots reflect Minne’s signature skirt for the pocketbook base, and Minnie’s eyes and shoes of the DecoSet provide the finishing touches.
Perfect as a pair for a wedding or individually for a bridal shower or groom’s cake. These designs show off the flexibility and versatility of the Mickey Mouse Creations DecoSet. With a picture of a bride’s dress, you could even recreate it on the cake! Here we used Cake Lace for the veil and bodice, a string of pearls bordering the top tier as a necklace, and a “skirt” of elegant, large buttercream ruffles using tip #403 Ruffle.
To create this iconic groom, first ice the bottom tier in black buttercream. Add a shirt by cutting out a “dickie” from a White Fondant DecoSheet. Use a Black Fondant DecoSheet to cut out suit lapels and place them on the fondant shirt for extra dimension and a tuxedo effect. Add a Red Gum Paste Bow and let the celebration begin! This formal Mickey Mouse cake could also be used for fundraising galas—especially ones that help raise money for children’s causes.
Everyone at DecoPac is excited to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th Anniversary. Now that you see how much fun you can have with new Mickey Mouse Creations DecoSet, we hope you’re excited to join the party, too. Because after all What’s a Party Without a Cake?!®
ABOUT THE DECORATOR
Hi, I’m Tina. I caught the cake decorating bug early by helping my Mom. She wasn’t great at making roses, even Dad’s were better, so I kept practicing until I was the best rose maker in the family. Soon I started creating cakes for friends and family, and eventually worked as a cake decorator and Team Lead in Bakery at SuperTarget. Now I work at DecoPac as a cake decorator and designer supervisor, managing a team of cake decorators, designing cakes, and sharing tips in tutorial videos. I’m completely self-taught, and enjoy learning from other cake decorators.
